We all think of ourselves as a welcoming community, and certainly there are many people in our part of the world who have visited on holiday, and decided to make their home here. We now had a chance to welcome a visitor from one of our Link Dioceses – Botswana. The Revd. Prof James Amanze.
This was a chance to meet someone who comes from a very different part of the world, and to learn something about how the church ‘ticks’ in Botswana. If you saw any of ‘The Number One Ladies Detective Agency’ (which is set in Botswana) on TV, or have read the books, you’ll have an idea of how different our countries are – and what a chance this was to meet James and spend some time with him.
The day began with coffee in St. Cuthbert’s. Then we walked to Hauxley where we had a typical Northumbrian lunch together in the Village Hall.
Thanks to all the people who made the day so special, everyone who made food, suggested ideas, came along and walked, or played us music. It was a great time and our closing worship was a very special time of prayer.
We hope to hear more from James after his return to Botswana.
